LEYTON Orient were conquerors of Athletic twice in little over 24 hours.

After being beaten 2-1 at The Matchroom Stadium, Athletic’s second defeat came at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel where the O’s pipped them to be named League One’s community club of the year.

Athletic were one of five League One clubs to be nominated as part of the Football League awards.

BOUNDARY BLUES are holding their end-of-season party at St Anne’s Rugby Club, Shaw, on Monday, April 20 (7pm-9pm).

A NUMBER of Athletic fans were duped by an April Fool’s Day prank dreamed up by Boundary Park staff.

They posted a story on the club’s website saying Athletic were to install new super-powerful floodlights which, research proved, improved results.

Similar to the ones at the Emirates Stadium and Wembley, it was claimed they also doubled up as lights which simulated sunshine to encourage grass to grow.

The report also suggested the lights had powers which produced rapid hair growth among bald men and further claimed they were so strong that there was a risk of affecting the flight paths of aeroplanes flying over the ground.

Athletic were amazed to hear that a number of fans had been taken in by the ruse, including one who had researched the number of games which the club had lost under floodlights.

SEAN Gregan is staking a late claim to be Athletic’s player of the year.

The 35-year-old central defender’s fine form was rewarded with the player-of-the-month award for March.
