REUBEN Hazell has been voted by Athletic fans as their player of the season.
The 30-year-old defender confessed to being surprised to receive the honour at last night’s awards dinner at Hotel Smokies Park.
Hazell, who recently signed a new two-year contract, edged out Chris Taylor and Sean Gregan for the award.
Taylor may have lost out for the main prize, but the 22-year-old forward picked up four awards - the players’ player, Trust Oldham, Boundary Blues and Oh When The Blues player-of-the season awards.
Deane Smalley collected the Colin Shaw Memorial Trophy for being the young player of the year, while Matty Wolfenden’s work in the community earned him the club man of the year and Mark Allott’s spectacular shot at Huddersfield was voted goal of the season.
