A ONE-MATCH ban denied Mark Allott the distinction of being Athletic’s only ever-present player during the 2008/09 season.
The reliable midfield man was ruled out of the home match against Hartlepool in January after collecting five yellow cards, but appeared in Athletic’s other 50 first-team fixtures.
Defender Reuben Hazell was similarly affected as the three matches he missed were also through bans for amassing five and 10 cautions.
Athletic had six players who appeared in 40 or more games.
Allott and Hazell were joined by Chris Taylor, Sean Gregan, Danny Whitaker and Lee Hughes.
Athletic used a total of 33 players in the first team.
Appearances: Allott 50, Hazell 48, Taylor 46, Gregan 43, Whitaker 42, Hughes 40, Smalley 39, Eardley 37, Alessandra 36, Liddell 34, Maher 32, Lomax 31, Jones 25, Crossley 24, Fleming 21, Stam 18, O’Grady 15, Davies 14, Windass 11, Lee 9, Byfield 8, Golbourne 8, Kabba 8, Wolfenden 6, Ormerod 5, Supple 5, Westlake 5, Byrne 4, Black 3, Budtz 3, Hines 3, Brooke 1, Ferreira 1.
Goalscorers
LEE HUGHES was Athletic’s 18-goal leading scorer despite being loaned to Blackpool and missing the last seven league games of the season.
The 32-year-old striker will not be returning to Boundary Park as his two-year contract expires this summer.
Hughes finished well clear of winger Chris Taylor, who found the net 11 times, his highest total so far.
Taylor’s efforts were rewarded when he was named in the PFA League One team of the year along with full-back Neal Eardley.
There was also a creditable return of eight goals apiece for Andy Liddell and Danny Whitaker.
The 35-year-old Liddell, who recently had the remaining three months of his contract paid up, scored five penalties in his total as he maintained his 100-per-cent record from the spot.
Midfield-man Whitaker had an encouraging first season after arriving from Port Vale last summer.
Goals: Hughes 18, Taylor 11, Liddell 8, Whitaker 8, Alessandra 5, Smalley 5, Allott 3, Hazell, 3, Eardley 2, Brooke 1, Byfield 1, Jones 1, Maher 1, Windass 1, own goal 1.
