Latics stadium plans: your views

Date published: 30 July 2009

CHRONICLE sports editor Bob Young presented a case for Athletic’s move to a new stadium (Tuesday’s Chronicle) and here’s your response . . .

YOU’RE right Bob. Whatever football club owners do there is always a faction that wants to jump on them and complain.

It is more inconvenient for me to travel to the new site but it should be worth it.

I am sure the Three Amigos investigated many possible sites before deciding on this one.

COULDN’T have put it better myself!

Surely the new stadium will create further revenue and investment streams which bode well for the club and the town?

You never know, City’s owners may have a few Arabic friends who get lost going to a game and stumble across ‘The Andy Ritchie stadium’ and the rest is history!

WHAT a breath of fresh air Bob brings to this agenda. Of course he’s right.

We have to move on and a new stadium is just what the Latics need. I am 32 years old and I first went to watch Latics when my grandad took me there when I was six. I have been going ever since.

I will always remember the past through rose-tinted eyes but I am looking forward to the new era even more. Come on Oldham!

A TOWN of approx 200,000 people should not be getting only 4,000 home fans for its professional football club.

It’s time the people of this town got behind schemes like this and stood up to be counted.

Instead we seem to be over run as a town with people who are all too eager to be pessimistic about the council, etc, yet do nothing themselves to improve it.

LATICS moving could make things worse for residents living close to the present ground. Football August to May is the devil they knew.

When the economy improves a 24-hour retail park is my guess for such a large piece of land!

THERE are infinitely more moaners than doers in this world. Moaners by nature usually despise authority, officialdom or bosses.

At the same time they do not have the capability themselves to change anything, let alone pay for it.

Nor the slightest idea of the overheads of running a professional football club.

A new ground, wherever it may be will have detractors. And they must be appeased fairly. A new ground is for the next 50 to 100 years. Modern and attractive from top to toe. It’s progress!

ONE minute they are complaining of not enough support for their redevelopment plans of BP, then when they get it, they destroy one side of the ground...but, guess what, the plan fails, and now they want support for another plan.

Do you really trust these people? They are financiers after all, and we all know what they’ve done to us all.

And when has the phrase ‘In Partnership with Oldham Council’ ever inspired confidence?

I Trust TTA but I don’t trust this lot (the Council). I am fearful it will be cheap, ill thought out & temporary! We were marching for TTAs against the council not long ago! Worried!
