ATHLETIC have today completed the signings of three players to bolster their squad for the new Coca-Cola League One campaign which kicks off on Saturday.
Manager Dave Penney has recruited Alex Marrow (19) from Blackburn Rovers on a one-month loan with Peter Gilbert and Darren Byfield on short-term contracts.
Marrow can play at right-back, centre of defence and in midfield and his versatility will be invaluable.
Gilbert (26), who was released by Sheffield Wednesday in April, will take over at left-back from Joe Jacobson as it is feared he needs a hernia operation.
Striker Byfield is no stranger having had a loan spell at Boundary Park last season and also being on trial pre-season having been released by Doncaster Rovers.
