Buzzing Bees wary of Latics

ANDY SCOTT is expecting Athletic to provide newly-promoted Brentford with their most difficult match so far in Coca-Cola League One.

Although the unbeaten Bees are buzzing in fifth place, manager Scott says they will not be taking mid-table Athletic lightly at Griffin Park tomorrow.

Scott, whose brother Rob is a former Athletic player, said: “Dave Penney’s sides are always very well-organised and that is why he has done well in the lower leagues.

“He knows the divisions inside out and also the way he wants his teams to play. I expect it will be our toughest game so far.”

That is a big compliment to Athletic bearing in mind in their last two matches Brentford have beaten Norwich and drawn at Southampton, two teams who played in the Championship last season.

Scott is delighted with the way his team have continued where they left off from last season when they were crowned champions of League Two.

“When you look at the fixtures we have had, it has been a difficult start,” he said.

“We have done very well and I am delighted that we have been able to carry on where we left off.

“It also gave us a lift when Saints manager Alan Pardew said his team could learn a big lesson from us.”

Although Scott has maintained the nucleus of last season’s squad, he has been able to add Welsh international keeper Lewis Price, who is on a season-long loan from Derby, and strikers of the calibre of Carl Cort and Steven Kabba, who had a loan spell at Boundary Park last season.

Scott said: “We are lucky to have been able to get Lewis for the season. We need players like him, Cort and Kabba.

“We had a young, enthusiastic squad which needed more experience to play at a higher level.

“Cort has been fantastic and there is a lot more to come from Kabba, who is not 100-per-cent fit.”

Bees United, the Supporters’ Trust which runs the club, this week voted overwhelmingly in favour of forming a partnership with Matthew Benham, their largest creditor.

The deal will see Benham invest a minimum of £1million for the next five years.

“Brentford Football Club needs more investment and I shall be putting in substantial sums to help them become a Championship team,” said Benham, a lifelong fan and successful businessman.
