Canadian ‘Moose’
Date published: 13 October 2009
IAN MARSHALL was affectionately known as ‘Moose’ during his playing days with Athletic.
So there is a touch of irony, then, that the defender-turned-striker should emigrate to Canada which provides the natural habitat for the largest member of the deer family!
Marshall, who was with Athletic during the glory days under Joe Royle, left these shores with his family in 2003 for a new life in Pasadena, Newfoundland, where he has become a successful businessman.
He runs the Ian Marshall Soccer Camps and is also aiming to build a £5million indoor sports facility where his soccer academy will be based.
For several years Marshall, who joined Athletic from Everton in a £100,000 deal in 1988, also owned Sam’s Place Restaurant and Bar, named after his wife and which employed 12 staff in the winter and 20 in the high season.
Marshall has contacted Athletic in a bid to secure photographs for his website of his days at Boundary Park.
Anybody with pictures can send them to Athletic, who will scan them and e-mail them to Marshall.
Alternatively, they can be sent direct to him at marshallsoccer@hotmail.com
