SIX-SHOOTER . . . Frank Bunn gunned down Scarborough with his double hat-trick.
PARK LIFE: FRANK Bunn's famous six-goal salvo against Scarborough is in the running for a Football League award.
The League has announced the 50 golden moments from which the greatest League Cup moment of all time will be selected . . . and Athletic are one of 39 clubs in the running to claim top spot.
Fans can vote for their favourite online at www.leaguecup50.com and by doing so put themselves in with a chance of winning one of 50 pairs of tickets for the 2010 Carling Cup final, or one of 200 special edition Carling Cup final balls.
Bunn, now a coach at Championship side Coventry City, scored his double hat-trick in a 7-0 victory over a Scarborough side who had knocked Chelsea out in the previous round.
His feat remains a competition record and came in the 1989-90 season when Athletic reached the final against Nottingham Forest at Wembley, losing 1-0 to a Nigel Jemson goal in front of 74,343 fans.
CHRIS O'Grady continues to impress for Athletic's neighbours Rochdale.
The on-loan striker has played a big part in the Spotland outfit's rise to the top of League Two, scoring eight times in 19 appearances.
O'Grady, who had a hand in two of Dale's goals in the 3-0 home win over Macclesfield at the weekend, is due back at Athletic when his loan expires on January 13.
Of the other Athletic players currently at other clubs, goalkeeper Greg Fleming has been a regular starter for Dunfermline in the Scottish Division One and is due to return at the turn of the year, while Liam Dawson's loan spell at Nantwich runs out this weekend.
ROYTON author Carl Spiers is looking for Athletic fans to help with his new book.
It is centred on the 20th anniversary of the season in which Athletic reached Wembley.
And to mark the occasion, Spiers is hoping to get testimonies from 100 different fans detailing their memories.
Anyone who can help, either by providing words or pictures, is asked to contact Carl by emailing carlhspiers@btinternet.com or calling 07980 001863.
AMATEUR football clubs and organisations with tired, dilapidated facilities are being urged to nominate their ground for a facelift, courtesy of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
The sponsors of the Football League competition are ready with their own decorating team to visit grass roots grounds across the country that are most in need of a lick of paint and a general tidy-up.
Clubs have until January 31 to upload a picture of their facilities as they are, along with an explanation, in no more than 50 words, as to why they think they deserve to win.
