PARK LIFE: SEAN Gregan is the runaway leader in the race to be Chronicle Star Man for season 2009/10.
At the halfway point in the League One season, Athletic’s captain — who shared last season’s prize with Chris Taylor — is way ahead of his nearest competitor on seven nominations, with Pawel Abbott’s three putting him in second spot.
Gregan has been revitalised since re-signing for the club in the summer, putting his off-field problems behind him to become a mainstay at the heart of the Athletic rearguard.
At the ripe age of 35, he is the only man to have played every minute of Athletic’s 26 league and cup games and has already racked up as many nominations as he managed in all of last season.
This year’s Star Man award for the most man-of-the-match nominations brings with it a £600 cheque for charity, courtesy of Leesfield Developments.
Awards this season have gone to:
7 - Sean Gregan; 3 - Pawel Abbott; 2 - Danny Whitaker, Dean Furman, Alan Sheehan, Dale Stephens; 1 - Chris Taylor, Alex Marrow, Keigan Parker, Reuben Hazell, Jon Worthington, Andy Holdsworth, Joe Colbeck, Darryl Flahavan.
