BOUNDARY PARK LIFE: PREPARATIONS for the Celebration Dinner marking the 20-year anniversary of Athletic's famous "pinch me" season continue apace.

Under Joe Royle, Athletic played against Nottingham Forest at Wembley in the Littlewoods Cup final — the only time the club has ever been involved in such a major showpiece occasion.

They also made it to the last four of the FA Cup in 1990, losing out to Manchester United in a replay.

All the ex-players of that season have been invited along to the event at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham, on April 28, with none as yet indicating that they can't make it.

Among those travelling from far and wide to be present are Ian Marshall, who is crossing the Atlantic from his Canada home, Gary Williams who is venturing from Spain, and two men who live in Norwich, Neil Adams and Mike Milligan.

All non-playing staff from the time will be there, too, and there will be words on the night from Joe Royle, Andy Ritchie and Rick Holden.

On the big screen, all the goals from both cup runs will be shown, a five-course dinner will be served and musical entertainment is being provided by the Cheatles, a Beatles tribute act.

Individual tickets are priced at £49 plus VAT per person, with tables of 10 at £450 plus VAT.

Places can be booked by ringing Gordon at the club on (0161) 785 5166.
