KIERAN Lee : new one-year deal
KIERAN Lee has signed a new one-year deal to stay on at Athletic.
The versatile 21-year-old came through a tough first 18 months at Boundary Park to become a firm favourite at right-back in the latter half of the season.
“Since getting a regular place, I think I have done quite well and hopefully I can carry that on next season,” Lee told the club website.
A number of players have been released, with Danny Whitaker and Kiegan Parker both searching for pastures new.
Whitaker has reached the end of his two-year deal after joining the club from Port Vale in 2008, with the attacking midfielder managing three goals this season.
Scottish striker Parker, who joined Athletic from Huddersfield last summer, endured a poor campaign in which he scored twice in 22 appearances and was sent out on loan to League Two club Bury. His one-season contract has not been extended.
A further five first-year professionals — Chris Rowney, Liam Dawson, Michael McKerr, Phil Ojapah and Rene Steer — have been told they will not have contracts renewed as the club shrinks its squad size.
