ATHLETIC have confirmed they have received tentative enquiries about a number of the club's transfer-listed players — but no firm offers have yet come in.
Manager Paul Dickov has told six players they can leave as he bids to create room in the playing budget for new signings.
Greg Fleming, Kelvin Lomax, Rob Purdie, Joe Jacobson, Joe Colbeck and Jon Worthington are all available for transfer, either on a permanent or loan basis.
Following the 3-0 defeat to a youthful Liverpool XI in the Lancashire Senior Cup final on Saturday, Dickov reflected that his squad doesn't contain enough leaders at present.
Several positions — notably centre-back, despite the signing of Jason Jarrett last week — appear ripe for reinforcements to be brought in.
And Dickov has yet to confirm who will captain the side. Sean Gregan wore the armband last season, but he has missed a large chunk of pre-season through injury.
Other possible candidates include experienced men Reuben Hazell, Pawel Abbott and Warren Feeney.
Meanwhile, Athletic have named their squad numbers for the 2010-11 season.
Player-boss Dickov will wear the number 29 shirt and new signings Ritchie Jones, Feeney and Jarrett take numbers 7, 17 and 11 respectively.
Most of the senior players keep the same squad numbers from last season, with the number 2 shirt as yet unfilled.
Squad: 1, Brill; 3, Jacobson; 4, Worthington; 5, Holdsworth; 6, Hazell; 7, Jones; 8, Smalley; 9, Abbott; 10, Purdie; 11, Jarrett; 12, Lomax; 13, Fleming; 14, Furman; 15, Alessandra; 16, Gregan; 17, Feeney; 18, Taylor; 19, Lee; 20, Stephens; 21, Black; 22, Brooke; 23, Ollerenshaw; 24, Millar; 25, Colbeck; 26, Bembo-Leta; 27, McGrath; 28, Eaves; 29, Dickov; 30, Fodor; 31, Floszman.
FORMER Athletic striker Scott Vernon has signed for Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen.
The 26-year-old, who famously scored the winner for Athletic to dump Manchester City out of the FA Cup five years ago, has made the move north of the border after being released by Colchester United.
ATHLETIC'S squad and manager Paul Dickov will take part in a signing session in Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre next Tuesday, August 3.
Fans can go along to meet the team between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
