Errors cost us — Philliskirk
Date published: 09 September 2010
ATHLETIC’S youth team were left cursing defensive errors as they lost 3-2 at home to Bury.
It was a game coach Tony Philliskirk felt his men could and should have won.
But a pair of individual mistakes and one from the defence as a group led to Athletic finding themselves 3-0 down and staring down the barrel.
Matty A Carr and David Mellor then produced a pair of goals to leave the home side trailing by one in the Youth Alliance clash with 15 minutes to go.
Ryan Burns, the Northern Irish winger, has now received international clearance to play along with fellow countryman Carl Winchester and Welsh midfielder Danny Bell.
Burns made his mark by striking the crossbar and Andrew Crompton missed a one-on-one chance as Athletic slipped to defeat.
“We played ever so well in truth and the mistakes cost us,” said Philliskirk.
