Dickov seeking positive reaction

AFTER the unbeaten run was shattered by Peterborough’s five-goal fightback, Athletic manager Paul Dickov won’t allow his players any time to feel sorry for themselves.
A 5-2 defeat at London Road, in a game in which Athletic carried a two-goal lead virtually up to the stroke of half-time, saw Dickov’s men slip to 10th in the npower League One table.
Peterborough went top — though had Athletic managed to hold on to or even enhance their two-goal advantage instead of succumbing to a series of defensive slip-ups, they would now be leading the way in the table.
Up against a Posh side brimming with attacking power, it was a tough lesson for Dickov who remained philosophical.
“I wasn’t getting carried away before and I’m not getting carried away now,” he said, following a fourth league game without a win.
“When you defend poorly against a team like that with their forwards, you get punished and that is what happened.
“We have got a home game against Bournemouth now and we need to pick ourselves up.
“The lads prior to Peterborough have been excellent for me.”
ATHLETIC’S reserves take on Bury tomorrow in a totesport.com League game which is being played at Stalybridge (7pm kick-off).
