Feeney a ‘refreshing’ character

WARREN Feeney epitomises Northern Ireland's spirit.
That is the verdict of national team boss Nigel Worthington, who praised the energy and attitude of the 29-year-old Athletic striker.
Feeney starred in a hard-fought 0-0 home draw against four-time World Cup winners Italy last Friday and kept his place for the 1-1 draw in the Faroe Islands on Tuesday — results which, though the latter was hugely disappointing, keep the team's outside hopes of qualifying for Euro 2012 alive.
"Warren is very refreshing," said Worthington prior to the Faroes game.
"He always has a smile on his face and has something to say.
"He is a bundle of energy. The biggest thing is he wears the Northern Ireland shirt with pride. That is what carries him.
"That is what we are. We all work hard. There are no passengers and that is important.
"If you go back over many years Northern Ireland have been successful having top-class players who work hard for each other. That is where our success comes from."
Gregan gives up captaincy
SEAN Gregan has handed over his captain's armband to Reuben Hazell.
The centre-back is heading out on loan after being made available by Paul Dickov.
And the 36-year-old said he doesn't feel that retaining the club captaincy is appropriate when he is looking to secure a move away from Boundary Park.
"It is the best solution for everybody concerned," said Gregan.
