LET’S GO.. Andy Crompton (right) turns away after scoring Athletic’s second goal against Bury last night.
ANDREW Crompton scored twice as Athletic eased into the second round of the FA Youth Cup with a 5-2 win at Bury.
A shaky start to the game at Gigg Lane saw Tony Philliskirk’s side concede after only two minutes, with Max Harrop getting on the score sheet.
David Mellor, who later went off with a head injury that required stitches, equalised with a 30-yard strike and Crompton slotted home Athletic’s second before a long-range drive by Bury’s Luke McCarthy made it 2-2 at half-time.
Ten minutes after the restart, Crompton — who has a first-team appearance under his belt this season, coming on as a substitute late in the Carling Cup defeat at Scunthorpe United — snapped up a rebound to put the visitors in front.
Jack Laird burst through and provided a clinical finish for the fourth and dangerous winger Ryan Burns produced a winding run and neat finish to round things off.
The draw for the second round is in two weeks. Premier League sides enter the competition at the third-round stage.
