Dickov can call on fully-fit squad for Saints test
ATHLETIC travel to the south coast tomorrow free of injury worries and seeking to extend a four-match unbeaten run when taking on Southampton.
Captain Reuben Hazell suffered no adverse reaction to the knee problem which threatened his participation in last Saturday’s 0-0 home draw against Colchester United.
Athletic manager Paul Dickov has a fully-fit squad to select from for this weekend’s match at the St Mary’s Stadium. Changes to the attacking line-up are unlikely.
Though Dean Kelly impressed with his energy when pushed forward into a striking role as Athletic searched for a winner against Colchester United, the tactic of using Chris Taylor tucked in behind Oumare Tounkara up front worked so well in the last away game, a 3-1 victory at Brentford, that it is likely to be replicated.
Ritchie Jones and Lewis Alessandra could feasibly switch wings, given Jones’s excellent crossing from the left when operating in that position for the whole of the second half at Boundary Park on Saturday.
But the rest of the side more or less picks itself other than at left-back, where Cedric Evina could be vulnerable.
Given a going-over by speedy Colchester winger Ashley Vincent, the on-loan Arsenal player picked up a second booking in as many games.
He was replaced by Paul Black for the last half-hour and the 20-year-old — an ever-present up to being dropped at Brentford — was praised by his manager for his efforts after coming on to the field.
Meanwhile, Sean Gregan was expected to tie up his three-month loan move to Fleetwood Town today.
The out-of-favour experienced centre-back is available to make his debut for the Blue Square Bet Premier club in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at home to Buxton.
PLACES on the supporters’ coach to Southampton are still available.
Leaving at 7.30am on Saturday morning and priced at £25 return, bookings can be made at the club shop or by calling (0161) 7855169.
