In-form Terriers leading the chase

THE best thing about football is that if you lose a match there is always another one just around the corner.

That’s what Athletic boss Paul Dickov said earlier this season and he will be counting down the hours ahead of Huddersfield’s visit to Boundary Park on Saturday.

The gloom that has descended on the club since the FA Cup exit at the hands of Accrington Stanley would be lifted by victory over the second-placed Terriers.

Lee Clark’s side are one of npower League One’s form sides. After seeing off Walsall and Sheffield Wednesday, they romped to a 5-2 win at Rotherham to progress to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern semi-final.

On-loan Benik Afobe (17), another exciting product of Arsenal’s seemingly never-ending production line of young talent, scored twice - his first goals for the club.

Strike partner Jordan Rhodes also bagged a brace, before midfielder Scott Arfield completed the rout.

Spectators can expect goals and entertainment on Saturday – the Yorkshire outfit have only drawn twice this season, winning eight matches and losing five.

They have 26 points, are ahead of Colchester on goal difference, and eight behind Gus Poyet’s formidable Brighton and Hove Albion.

Doing most of the damage to opposition defences has been Anthony Pilkington, who has netted nine goals in all competitions.

Pilkington (22) notched 16 goals in 77 appearances for Stockport County before penning a three-and-a-half year deal at Huddersfield in January, 2009.

Last season, his first full campaign at the club, he missed only one game, mustering nine goals - a tally he has already matched this term.

Pilkington has also featured for Republic of Ireland’s under-21s.

The main architect of goals in the Huddersfield ranks is Graham Carey.

The playmaker, on loan from Celtic, has seven assists to his name.

Meanwhile, Terriers hard man Peter Clarke, an ever-present in the side this season, will have to tread carefully as he is one booking away from a one-match ban.
