Fans asked to place trust in manager’s judgment
Date published: 25 November 2010
TRUST Oldham hope to attract more fans into the Playershare scheme by holding "An Evening with the Gaffer" night at Milan Bar, Lees, on Thursday, December 9 (7pm for a 7.30pm start).
Athletic boss Paul Dickov and assistant Gerry Taggart will be present to talk to supporters about the initiative, which is intended to provide the management team with a fund which can be used to bring new players into the club over and above the set wage budget for the season. They will also give their thoughts on the campaign to date.
So far, Playershare has raised almost £9,000 since its relaunch in July.
And the hope is that the scheme can now be given a shot in the arm whereby more fans sign up in order to give Dickov options in the player market as the club chases a play-off place in npower League One.
The idea is that if Dickov approaches the Athletic board seeking to sign a player, but that request is turned down due to financial concerns, the Playershare scheme can come into its own in order to provide the necessary funding for wages.
The Trust hopes to have at least 100 fans involved in the scheme by the end of the season, paying a minimum of £1 a week.
Entry on the night will be via a minimum donation of £5 and this will include a ticket for the raffle, as well as pizza and pasta during the interval. A licensed bar is open throughout the evening.
Demand is likely to be high and to reserve a place, contact Rick Atwood on 07590696973 or e-mail advertising@trustoldham.co.uk
