ATHLETIC have confirmed they are looking to bring in fresh faces before the transfer window slams shut.

The deadline is 11pm on Monday, but manager Paul Dickov could have as many as three new players on board for the journey to Carlisle this weekend – including, finally, Aidan White.

The Leeds winger was due back on loan with Athletic last week only for a slight recurrence of an ankle injury to resurface.

Manager Dickov hopes to welcome back White on a season-long loan. He could return to training with the rest of the squad tomorrow.

And with Jon Worthington departing on a month’s loan to Bradford yesterday, there is room in the squad for new faces.

Chief executive Alan Hardy said: “We hope there will be activity before the transfer deadline.

“Jon’s temporary switch to Bradford helps a bit in terms of bringing someone in on loan.”

Dickov is likely to target a striker, with Dean Kelly having returned to Ireland. There could also be room for centre-back cover.

But for now, the Athletic boss is keeping his cards close to his chest.

“We are hopeful Aidy will be in tomorrow,” said Dickov, whose men are only outside the top six in npower League One on goal difference after the 1-1 draw with Walsall last night.

“I know I said that last week, but in training with Leeds he tweaked his ankle again.

“So there was no point in sending him on loan to the end of the season, risking him last Saturday or at Walsall, and having him going over on it again and being out for six weeks.

“We are hoping he will be with us on Thursday and possibly another two as well.”
