Delayed wages hit players

THE LATE payment of wages may have had an adverse effect on some players, Athletic boss Paul Dickov said.
Appearing on the BBC's Late Kick-Off show, which featured a segment following the manager around before, during and after the Peterborough game, Dickov explained that while he hoped minds would have been fully focused on the pitch, this could not have been guaranteed.
"I told the squad on Friday because I knew what was happening then, wages-wise," Dickov said, following the 5-0 thumping by Darren Ferguson's side.
"I also told them that by Wednesday at the latest, the money would be in, and hopefully by Monday or Tuesday.
"I'd like to think it has not had a bearing on it, but you never know the nature of the beast you are dealing with.
"It's an individual thing. Some might have been affected, some might not have.
"But one thing I won't do is make excuses.
"Playing football is the best job in the world.
"When you go onto the pitch with the fans supporting you, you go out there and give it everything you have got."
ATHLETIC confirmed unpaid wages dating back to February should reach their players’ bank accounts in the next 24 hours.
