DEAN Furman clinched the Mitre Goal of the Year gong at last night’s Football League awards.
The midfield maestro capped a 14-pass move with an unstoppable strike for Athletic against Notts County earlier this season.
It was the 22-year-old’s first goal for the Boundary Park outfit.
“It was nice to finish off a great team move and the award is for the whole team really,” said Furman.
“I was just lucky to be the one on the end of it.
“I think the goal shows that there is some good quality football played in the lower leagues.”
QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt has been named the Football League player of the year.
The League One award went to Peterborough's Craig Mackail–Smith and Bury's Ryan Lowe carried off the League Two prize.
