We share your pain, Corney tells fans

FANS’ frustration at Athletic's goals drought is something Simon Corney sympathises with.

The club chairman watched from the directors' box at Boundary Park on Monday and felt that the dominance enjoyed by the home team should have been reflected by way of picking up three points.

A draw was all manager Paul Dickov's men could manage on the night, despite an enterprising performance in front of the television cameras which halted a sequence of six successive defeats.

It was a 10th blank in front of goal in the last 11 matches, though — a statistic which upsets Corney as much as it does anybody else.

“I think it is the story of our last three months," said the chairman.

"We created a few chances, but didn’t put the ball in the back of the net and it was a shame.

“We were on television which gave us an opportunity to show what we can do and we haven’t taken it. I am disappointed.

“It is a point, but if I’m being honest it is the kind of game we should be getting three points from.

“We haven’t done that in a long time and I think the fans have every right to feel aggrieved.

“Quite a few decided to come to the game even though it was on television and we appreciate that.

“But we need to turn these draws into wins.”
