ROBERT Ambrusics gets his first run-out tonight as he bids to win an Athletic contract.
The 19-year-old Hungarian goalkeeper has arrived at Boundary Park on a two-week trial and takes his place in the reserves’ line-up at Tranmere (7pm kick-off).
A player who has come through the ranks at Leicester, Ambrusics is currently in his third season with the club.
He accompanied Leicester's first team on their tour of Slovenia in pre-season and was given a squad number for 2010-11, sitting on the substitutes' bench for The Foxes’ 2-1 Carling Cup win over Leeds at Elland Road.
"Robert is someone Gerry (Taggart) and I know well from our days at Leicester and we want to give him a chance here at Boundary Park," said Athletic manager Paul Dickov, who recently lost the services of a goalkeeper when first-choice Ben Amos was recalled by Manchester United.
With the youth team having played two big cup-ties in three days across the weekend, Lee Duxbury fields a strong line-up for tonight's Tranmere clash.
Aside from Ambrusics, Greg Kidd, Matty D Carr and a trialist, the remaining starting 11 all have first-team experience this season.
Out-of-favour centre-back Neal Trotman starts the game, with Warren Feeney and Ryan Brooke partnered in attack.
Reserves: Ambrusics, Winchester, Kidd, Matty D Carr, Trotman, Millar, Trialist, Jones, Alessandra, Feeney, Brooke. Subs: Hughes, Routledge, Burns, Mellor, Matty A Carr.
ATHLETIC slipped to 16th in npower League One last night as a result of Sheffield Wednesday's 4-0 home win over Tranmere.
Rochdale are within two points of sixth-placed Bournemouth following their 2-1 win at Notts County , while on-loan midfielder Dale Stephens started his first game for Southampton, who defeated Athletic's opponents this weekend, Charlton, 2-0 at home.
