Skipper: We didn’t deserve three points
ATHLETIC did not do enough to pick up three points at Yeovil, says captain and goal scorer Chris Taylor.
Despite a dominant first-half display — the highlight of which was Taylor’s excellent finish of a flowing team move, his ninth goal of the campaign — Athletic collapsed under a welter of high long balls from the home team after the interval.
Despite being down to 10 men for the last half-hour, the Glovers were the better side in most aspects of the game.
For a frustrated Taylor, who took the armband in the absence of injured skipper Reuben Hazell, it was not good enough.
“Give them credit, they got up and at us,” said Taylor, after Athletic picked up a point which sees the club drop to 16th in npower League One with four games left of the season.
“But once they went down to 10 men I didn’t think we kept the ball well enough.
“We had to make them chase it more and in the end, under the pressure they got a goal.
“Everyone knows we should have been going up the motorway with three points and it is disappointing we have not climbed up the table.
“We have got to try to win every game now. The one positive from Yeovil is that we are unbeaten in four games.”
Athletic skipper Hazell is struggling for fitness ahead of the Easter double-header which starts with a trip to Exeter on Good Friday.
A medial knee ligament injury prevented him from playing at Yeovil and is still receiving treatment.
There is better news on Filipe Morais, who should be back soon from his hip injury, while youngster Carl Winchester picked up a slight knock playing for Northern Ireland under-19s last week.
FORMER Athletic stars were rewarded for their efforts this season at last night’s PFA awards dinner.
While the League One team of the season was dominated by champions Brighton and Southampton, ex-Boundary Park men Guy Branston (Torquay), Danny Whitaker and Craig Davies (Chesterfield) were recognised by their peers.
