Latics sign Smith

ATHLETIC have snapped up non-league goal machine Matt Smith from Solihull Moors on a two-year free transfer deal.

The 21-year-old — who is 6ft 6in tall — bagged 23 goals in 27 appearances in Blue Square Bet North last season during spells at Redditch United, Droylsden and Solihull.

It was Smith’s stint at the Midlands club — where he notched 12 goals in 14 games at the business end of the campaign — that convinced Athletic boss Paul Dickov to make him the first new arrival of the summer at Boundary Park.
