Club’s legal action threat over tweet

Date published: 30 May 2011

ATHLETIC are considering legal action against former player Joe Jacobson after the full-back suggested on a social networking website that the club’s players had not been paid again.

Staff received late salary payments in February, March and April, but this month’s wages were on time, the club has confirmed.

Jacobson, now at Accrington Stanley, posted on Twitter: “The Oldham boys have not been paid again.”

The club responded with a statement, which read: “Athletic are considering legal action against ex-player Joe Jacobson after his Twitter statement.

“The club can confirm that all contracted players and staff have been paid on time this month.

“It is unhelpful when former players publish untruths on social media and the club is not prepared to sit back and do nothing about it.”

Club officials contacted Jacobson, who has since removed the ‘Tweet’.
