JOSH Parker gave Athletic boss Paul Dickov food for thought by scoring twice for the reserves last night.
The 20-year-old forward and free agent, who has made four appearances for Queens Park Rangers in the npower Championship, netted twice in a 2-0 victory for Lee Duxbury’s men in a friendly at Ashton United.
It is the second trial period at the club for Parker, who impressed Dickov first time around before jetting off for international duty with Antigua three weeks ago.
Though he hasn’t yet registered a league goal in professional football — Parker had short loan spells at Northampton and Wycombe in League Two last season — with Warren Feeney now off the club’s books, it could be that the club take a punt on the speedy Slough-born player.
Feeney departed Boundary Park yesterday after his contract with the club was terminated.
The Northern Ireland international’s deal ran until the end of the 2011-12 season, but he is now free to sign permanently for Plymouth after a proposed loan switch to the Devon outfit broke down on Monday.
Feeney (30) made 23 league league appearances for Athletic last season, but his only goal came in an FA Cup tie at Accrington Stanley, in a campaign disrupted by injuries and international call-ups.
Also in the reserves line-up last night were first-team men Filipe Morais — who is suspended for the Sheffield United game on Saturday — and Kirk Millar, both of whom got through a full 90 minutes at Hurst Cross.
Midfielder David Mellor was one of the shining lights in last night’s reserves side, creating the opening goal for Parker, while the team also included two other trialists.
Ashton came close to scoring late on in the game, striking both post and crossbar.
Barnet have signed former Athletic goalkeeper Dean Brill.
The League Two club have handed the 25-year-old a one-year deal.
