Latics hoping for flat Iron

SCUNTHORPE United have not had things all their own way in this early stage of the season.

Still awaiting their first npower League One win of the campaign, Alan Knill's men have experienced ups and downs since getting stuck into life following relegation.

The Iron started off with a bang at Wycombe on the opening day, cracking in 11 shots on target to the home's side's one — which, inevitably, found the net.

A 1-1 draw was all Knill's men gained, thanks in no small part to an inspired display from Wanderers goalkeeper Nikki Bull.

They followed that up with a comfortable 2-0 Carling Cup win at Accrington, before sneaking a draw at home to Preston at the weekend thanks to a late equaliser from ex-Gillingham winger Andy Barcham.

Athletic boss Paul Dickov knows the extent of the challenge his side are facing.

"Scunthorpe have got good Championship players in their team who all do their jobs properly," Dickov said.

"They play with two good wingers, their two strikers are a handful and they are solid at the back. As always, Alan Knill gets them playing good football."

Dickov also hinted at possible changes for the test at Glanford Park, in a bid to secure a first three points of the campaign.

"We are looking at different things, because it needs to be addressed," he added. "We are not going to panic and I won't make any stupid decisions.

"We work out what went wrong and then go out to get a positive result."

Jordan Robertson, the striker who had a short spell on loan at Boundary Park in early 2008, won't feature for the home side as a result of a broken ankle he sustained in training last week.

Scunthorpe will look to former Rochdale front man Chris Dagnall to provide the main goal threat.
