New signings strike a chord

TRADITIONALLY, footballers do not make good musical performers.

The mad duet between former Marseille team-mates Basile Boli and Chris Waddle is a rare example of brilliance — look it up on YouTube — but more often than not, these tracks hit a bum note.

Just look at Liverpool's 'Anfield Rap', Gazza's 'Fog on the Tyne' or Andy Cole's 'Outstanding' for evidence.

Athletic play their own part in adding to the sport's musical canon, albeit behind the closed doors of away trips.

According to the latest 'banter bombs' hitting Twitter at the weekend, new-boys Matthew Lund and James Wesolowski indulged in a spot of singing over the dinner table.

The Aussie midfielder's effort, crooning a track by Uncle Kracker, got the nod of approval from team-mate Filipe Morais — "some nice vocal cords" was the winger's verdict — and Paul Black described it as "decent" compared to Lund's, which was simply "bad".

All a bit of fun, and evidence that Athletic's team spirit is in good health.

Aside from bonding through music, Wesolowski admits that it has helped his settling-in process to have a former colleague, goalkeeper Alex Cisak, at the club.

"I know Alex from Australia," said the former Peterborough man. "Actually he's from Tasmania, which I wouldn't count as Australia to be honest!

"I was with him at Leicester as young kids and we have kept in touch since.

“It is nice to have someone you know when you move to a new club and it makes it easier."

There is no public information on whether the pair are rooming together on away trips.

But if the lyrics to Uncle Kracker's 2001 hit 'Follow Me' are anything to go by, things could get very cosy indeed: "Follow me, everything is alright; I'll be the one to tuck you in at night; And if you want to leave, I can guarantee; You won't find nobody else like me."
