OFF the mark with a goal at Walsall, Athletic’s creator-in-chief Chris Taylor hopes it will spark an avalanche.
“The first goal of the season is the hardest. Once you get that, hopefully many more will come,” said Taylor, who netted 11 times last season to finish as the club’s top scorer.
“The defender (Andy Butler) tried to get in the way of it and it took a ricochet. It seemed to take an age to beat the ’keeper. It was still going in without the deflection so it’s my goal, 100-per-cent.
“It was such a good feeling to see it in the back of the net.”
Taylor also said he feels his is coming back into form: “I was the most confident I have felt this season,” he added.
“I had been a little frustrated with my performances and a lack of confidence when I have had the ball.
“I have also felt I have not been getting enough of the ball, but I saw plenty of it at Walsall and I really enjoyed playing.”
