Wesolowski has a taste for goals
JAMES Wesolowski hopes to get his name on the scoresheet on a regular basis for Athletic after notching his first goal for the club in the 2-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

The midfielder opened the scoring at Boundary Park after an hour following good work from Chris Taylor, before Dean Furman sealed the win with 10 minutes remaining.

Wesolowski said: “It is a great feeling to get off the mark. I don’t have that many opportunities in front of goal because of the defensive role I play in the centre of the park, but the pass from Chris was perfect.

“There was so much pace on the ball, all I had to do was get the technique right and guide it into the net. It was like controlled aggression with the shot.

“I enjoyed playing alongside Dean Furman. He replaced Tom Adeyemi, who can feel unlucky not to have started because he has been in brilliant form, but whoever I play with I just try my best to get those tackles in and help them out.

“But now I have scored I suppose I have got a taste for it and if I can get some more it would help take the pressure off the strikers.”

Wesolowski expects a tough time away to Preston tomorrow night but insists Athletic travel to Deepdale full of confidence. Preston are one of the favourites for promotion this season and rightly so, because they have some very good players.

“But we go into it on the back of earning three points and playing some good football, so if we go there and focus 100-per-cent we have every chance of coming away with a win.

“As far as I am concerned I am very happy in my current role. We are lucky to have quite a few flair players at the club, so as long as I can keep breaking down the opposition and giving it to the boys who can produce the magic, that is fine by me.”

Athletic boss Paul Dickov revealed Filipe Morais is likely to be fit for tomorrow’s game despite limping off with a tight hamstring against Wycombe.

He said: “Filipe should be alright, although we will assess it before making the final decision.

“We are hopeful Zander Diamond will be back in time for the Preston match too.”
