Spireites struggling to arrest downward spiral
Date published: 29 December 2011
CHESTERFIELD'S fortunes haven't changed a great deal since they suffered their Boundary Park mauling just over a month ago.
The Spireites have addressed the perilous situation they are in by making behind-the-scenes changes — rather than handing former Athletic manager John Sheridan the bullet.
Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Chris Turner has been brought on board by Chesterfield's former Owls owner Dave Allen as a new chief executive, with the responsibility of overseeing the running of the club.
As yet, it hasn't solved the team's woes on the field.
Since losing 5-2 to Athletic, Chesterfield have not won and have picked up only two draws.
One of those, against Preston, was followed immediately by a penalty shoot-out victory in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy which means Chesterfield and Athletic will meet each other three times in the space of around a month, starting on Monday.
Concerns remain for the hosts at both ends of the field.
Conceding goals is a major problem; the last clean sheet came in a 1-0 win over Bury, on September 13.
And even though the Spireites have only failed to find the target themselves twice in the last 15 games, the return of nine-goal top scorer Leon Clarke to his parent club Swindon was a big blow.
Jack Lester won’t fill the gap up front on at the B2net Stadium.
The experienced striker will serve the final game of a three-match ban sustained for an incident caught on video in a recent 1-1 home draw with Walsall.
ATHLETIC have announced details for the distribution of the 1,972 tickets they are to receive for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, Northern Area final at Chesterfield.
The match takes place at the B2net Stadium on Tuesday, January 17th — subject to Latics NOT being involved in an FA Cup replay against Liverpool.
Tickets will go on sale to season-ticket holders on Wednesday, January 4 (9am), with each ticket holder entitled to purchase one ticket on the production of voucher 'D'.
If any tickets remain unsold, they will go on open sale on Monday, January 9 (9am).
Ticket prices are £12 adults, £6 concessions (over-65s and 15-18 year-olds) and £3 (14 years and under).
