Goal machine has to be stopped

THEY came, they saw, they can't help but have been impressed — but as far as Huddersfield Town are concerned, their prize asset is staying put.

Tottenham assistant Joe Jordan cast the latest set of Premier League eyes on Jordan Rhodes at Wycombe, following on from representatives of Liverpool, Manchester United, Celtic, West Brom, Everton, Aston Villa, Norwich and Newcastle before him.

Also present at Adams Park was England under-21s boss Stuart Pearce.

And Rhodes' chances of landing a place in the Great Britain squad for the London Olympics can only have been boosted by his five goals scored in Town's 6-0 win.

Speculation has been rife over the Oldham-born player, son of Andy Rhodes.

West Ham have reportedly sought to take him on, with a £4million bid turned down and a new improved offer about to be presented.

Huddersfield manager Lee Clark, though, simply does not buy that the 21-year-old will leave the Galpharm Stadium.

"Let them (top-level scouts) come because Jordan is buzzing from the attention," Clark said.

"I noted the press last week, when his value seemed to go up from £3m to £4m, but to be honest, that's peanuts.

"We don't put a value on him, though, because as I keep saying, he's not for sale.

"I know what the owner (Dean Hoyle) has said on the subject and I trust him 100-per-cent."

Rhodes' feat at Wycombe set a record of his having scored in five successive matches, with 12 goals arriving in that period.
