Clarke move hinges on Huddersfield

NATHAN Clarke may or may not end up back at Athletic — but manager Paul Dickov wants to press on with transfer window business regardless.

Huddersfield centre-back Clarke said "we will have to see what happens" when quizzed by the press after the game at the Galpharm Stadium at the weekend as to what lies in store for his future.

Dickov wants Clarke back — plus, in an ideal world, others — but says it will depend on the player coming to an arrangement on wages with his parent club

"There are a few things that need to get sorted out," said Dickov on the situation over Clarke, a player frozen out at Huddersfield but with 20 games under his belt this season on loan at Boundary Park.

"The main thing is financial again. Nathan is on a decent wage there and if he can sort something out at his end with Huddersfield, there is a good chance it will be done.

"We are not in a position to pay the wages that the likes of Huddersfield pay their players.

"We are still speaking to Nathan about possibly bringing him back in and one or two others maybe.

"Finances will dictate what we can and can't do.

“That isn't a moan from me and I am pleased with what I have got. If we can add a bit of quality to the squad, we will try."

Dickov is also eager to hand experience to his fringe players to give them a taste of first-team football at a lower level.

“We want to get some of the younger players out on loan," he added.

"As well as they are doing in training and in the reserves, they need to play proper football to get games under their belt."
