YOU CAN’T CATCH ME: Keanu Marsh-Brown gives Walsall’s Lee Beevers a torrid time.
KIERAN Lee certainly knows it, and now Athletic fans are fully aware of it too: Keanu Marsh-Brown has got a serious lick of pace about him.
The former MK Dons winger, who roasted the dependable right-back on Athletic's last visit to stadium:mk, showcased his speed against Walsall on Tuesday night, allying it to a directness which led to the game’s opening goal scored by fellow wing man Filipe Morais.
For Lee, read Lee Beevers. The Saddlers right-back was reduced to an exasperated jog after being left for dust in the early sprint down the line, a race in which he had a good couple of yards' head start.
While that run from the ex-Fulham starlet led to a goal, on occasion his clear talent for trickery on the ball led him down blind alleys in the second half.
As far as Morais is concerned, when it comes to crafting Marsh-Brown into the finished article the trick is for him to find a balance between pace and ball skills.
"Keanu has got great ability," said Morais, who made 13 appearances himself for the Dons in the 2005-06 season.
"We were saying to him, with so much ability to beat a man he has to deliver at the end of it.
"We are all making our runs and if he does that, there is no stopping him.
"In the second half at times he was dribbling and losing possession, which is where we say he has to keep it.
"He can do whatever he wants with the ball and beat anyone one-on-one. It is great to have a player like that and we are really excited he is here.
"Hopefully, the gaffer will mould him in the right way and make him a great player for the future."
Athletic will aim to attack what will be perceived as a vulnerable MK Dons side tomorrow.
Karl Robinson's side have won only one of eight contests this year, though a caveat should be placed on that statistic in that they have had a series of difficult fixtures.
Morais, who now has three goals to his name this season, hopes Athletic can complete a second league 'double' in five days.
And the winger will continue to try to aid the cause in the goals department.
"I want to keep going with the scoring but then again, I don't want to jinx it!" he added.
"I just want to keep helping out the strikers. A lot has been said about Shefki (Kuqi) not scoring recently, but hardly any of us have been scoring.
"It can't be that if Shefki doesn't score, we don't win, so I have to keep trying to help out."
