TOM ADEYEMI . . . fine performance in the midweek defeat at home to Scunthorpe. Midfielder’s loan spell almost over
TOM Adeyemi is down to play his final game for Athletic this weekend — though his stay at Boundary Park could be extended further.
The energetic midfielder put in the finest performance of his loan spell so far in dominating the centre of the park for Paul Dickov’s side in a losing cause against Scunthorpe on Tuesday.
Adeyemi (20) has appeared 35 times for Athletic so far this term, scoring three goals.
Originally arriving in early September, he has since renewed his loan twice and is due back at parent club Norwich City after Saturday’s home game against Yeovil.
After striking up what appears to be a highly-promising partnership in central midfield with new loan man Reece Brown, Dickov would certainly be reluctant to part with him — particularly given the continuing injury absences of Dean Furman (knee) and James Wesolowski (shoulder).
“Tom was fantastic against Scunthorpe,” said Dickov. “He and Reece both did well, though Reece tired a bit towards the end which is understandable.
“Those two, especially for 70 minutes, completely dominated the game and gave us the space to go and play.
“We knew they would both complement each other.”
Norwich have so far been happy to let a player they regard as a future talent stay with Athletic, while keeping a keen eye on his progress.
Athletic wouldn’t comment this morning on the possibility of extending the player’s stay.
But with his maximum emergency loan period of 93 days expiring this weekend, if the Canaries prospect was to remain with the club it would be on a youth loan — which could run until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Athletic have had it confirmed by the FA that Keanu Marsh-Brown ,will be suspended for three matches.
The young winger, sent off for a two-footed lunge against Scunthorpe, misses the Yeovil game and away-days at Stevenage on Tuesday and Rochdale on Saturday week.
ATHLETIC’S derby clash at Rochdale on Saturday week is an all-ticket affair for visiting fans.
The club have received an allocation of 3,545 tickets, which are now available from Boundary Park priced at £20 adults and £14 concessions.
