Chris Taylor of Oldham sustains a serious leg injury
ATHLETIC fear that Chris Taylor may have played his last game for the club after being carried from the field at Brentford with suspected ankle ligament damage.
The winger, whom chairman Simon Corney revealed last week is to seek out a Championship club when his contract expires in the summer, received a hefty challenge early in the second half of a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Griffin Park.
He was carried off on a stretcher and taken to West Middlesex Hospital to be assessed.
With only a month left in the season, Taylor’s 285th showing for his home-town club may also turn out to be his last.
It would be a sad end to the 25-year-old’s Boundary Park career and manager Paul Dickov was not happy with the incident which led to the injury.
“Chris went to hospital for a scan so until we get the results we won’t know how bad it is,” said Athletic’s manager.
“But it is not looking good. It is a blow for us but more so for Chris. I can’t believe the referee (Nigel Miller) and his assistant have not given a foul.
“But I think I may be in trouble with the referee anyway having spoken to him.”
As for the game, a ninth loss for out-of-form Athletic in the last 11, Dickov felt his team were competitive but not good enough at either end of the pitch.
