Latics option for Roughyeds
Date published: 17 April 2012
ATHLETIC have not yet been approached by Oldham RL over the possibility of playing their home Challenge Cup tie against St Helens at Boundary Park, the Chronicle understands.
Whitebank doesn’t have the facilities to host a game against a Super League club, and Saints and Roughyeds officials were set to meet today to discuss arrangements.
The possibility of a switch of home advantage to St Helens' new home at Langtree Park is to be examined.
But with Athletic away to Bury on the weekend of Saturday, April 28, Boundary Park is another option that would keep the plum tie in the town.
Whether that happens may come down to money. Oldham RL stopped renting Boundary Park at the end of the 2009 season. Chairman Chris Hamilton said at the time that an agreement would allow future cup ties to return to the ground.
The RFL confirmed to the Chronicle today that clubs can relinquish home advantage if they choose to do so.
