THERE were mixed emotions in our dressing room after the 2-2 draw at Wycombe, secured by a late Robbie Simpson penalty.
The overriding emotion was relief - because the equaliser arrived a minute before the end. But there was also a feeling of disappointment, because for large spells we dominated the Chairboys.
We were 1-0 up and in total control - but the players took their feet off the gas.
No one ever scores a ‘worldy’ against us: goals by our opponents are nearly always down to mistakes we make. Having watched footage of the goals we conceded at Wycombe, we were the architects of our own downfall. It wasn’t just one slip, it was three or four.
At least the players showed character to come back late on.
Next we entertain Preston at Boundary Park tomorrow. They have had a tough time of it but have shown signs of recovery, drawing with Stevenage before beating promotion hopefuls Huddersfield.
We know what to expect from the Lilywhites — they are organised, robust and hard to break down.
For us, every game is important but I suppose these kind of matches have a bit more spice and we are looking forward to them.
