OLDHAM Athletic Community Trust is gearing up for a rip to Kenya next month - and the Chronicle will be there to provide daily coverage of progress.
The 10-day trip begins as eight volunteers - including our Oldham Athletic reporter Matthew Chambers - fly out on June 3.
Having already raised substantial funds for trust programmes across Oldham, the travellers will put their expertise to use in the Rift Valley town of Nakuru. Activities will include community work with local Kenyan children, football coaching and teaching in local schools.
"It promises to be a fantastic, life-changing experience," said organiser, Trust football development co-ordinator Jamie Blood. "The project has already raised money that helps to make a big difference to the local community here in Oldham. We hope to do the same to the people we meet in Kenya, helping to offer them a better quality of life."
Individuals have raised £1,995 each to participate in the big event, over £800 of which goes to the Trust.
There is still at least one vacancy available for anyone keen to offer their skills to the Kenyan hosts.
Included in the trip is a game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, a trip to the Earth's equator and a stop at Thomson Falls. Find out more at www.african-adventures.co.uk.
