ROBBIE Simpson has scooped the Chronicle’s Star Man prize as Athletic’s stand-out performer of the season.
The 27-year-old forward pipped the competition, spearheaded by Jean-Yves Mvoto and with injured James Wesolowski also two behind, to land the Indish Restaurant, Bar and Grill-sponsored £600 charity cheque.
Former Coventry City and Huddersfield Town man Simpson has chosen to donate the money to Macmillan Cancer Support.
As a now annaul award which recognises man-of-the-match performances, Simpson’s stand-out efforts in seven matches this season earned him top spot in the rankings
That Athletic will again be in npower League One at all in 2012-13 owes plenty to Simpson.
A record of eight assists puts him in the top 16 in the division, while a last-gasp penalty converted at Wycombe all-but erased fears that his side could be dragged into a relegation scrap.
