Latics contract talks continue

James Wesolowski . . . Athletic boss Paul Dickov wants to keep the midfielder.
ATHLETIC have stepped up talks with some of their out-of-contract players as boss Paul Dickov shapes his squad for next season.
The Scot has had a string of meetings: the futures of Kieran Lee, Robbie Simpson, James Wesolowski and Filipe Morais top the agenda, with want-away wide man Chris Taylor’s next move still in the air.
Athletic fans still wavering over season ticket purchases will be keen to know who will - and won’t - be wearing the shirt in August.
It is difficult for Dickov to make much transfer headway until he is aware of which positions need to be filled. Should Wesolowski commit, it would dramatically reduce the need for a tough-tackling midfielder to partner skipper Dean Furman.
Even if Robbie Simpson decides to stay, Dickov is almost certain to recruit at least one new striker, having seen his side struggle for goals towards the end of last term. The manager has already confirmed his interest in bringing Altrincham hitman Damien Reeves to Boundary Park.
