No Lions move yet for Taylor

Date published: 28 May 2012

CHRIS Taylor has yet to complete his one-year deal with Millwall.

The Chronicle understands terms had been agreed between the player and the Championship club and that the long-serving Athletic winger was to travel south and sign a contract late last week. But no deal has yet been announced.

The delay suggests rival clubs may have entered the bidding for the out-of-contract 25-year-old’s services. Leicester has been mentioned as a possible destination.

While Taylor appears a perfect fit in terms of slotting into the squad plans of Kenny Jackett — the Lions boss is on the hunt for a hard-running left winger — a longer contract than the offered 12 months could tempt player and agent to look away from the Den for his free transfer move.

What does seem certain, though, is that the Springhead flyer will not play next season for Athletic, the club he grew up at and represented 285 times at senior level.

On the recruitment front, the club had a positive meeting with out-of-contract striker Robbie Simpson before he embarked on a two-week holiday and are hopeful over the chances of retaining his services for next season.

There have as-yet been no talks between the club and winger Filipe Morais, also a free agent, since the week following the end of the season.
