James Wesolowski . . . the combative midfielder (right) is expected to sign a new Athletic deal this week.
JAMES Wesolowski is set to become the first close-season piece in manager Paul Dickov’s jigsaw, giving Athletic a major boost in the process.
The Chronicle understands a deal has been struck for the combative ex-Leicester City and Peterborough United midfielder to stay with Athletic .
Rival clubs have been chasing the player, but Dickov expects to land his man this week.
The 24-year-old has had an injury-plagued season but has recovered from corrective surgery.
When fit, Wesolowski’s midfield partnership with Dean Furman provided a platform solid enough to suggest the manager could well build his no-nonsense new team around it.
Athletic won’t comment officially until the contract has been signed.
