THUMBS UP: children in the Kenyan village of Hadassah will benefit from the work of Athletic’s Community Trust team.
EIGHT volunteers representing Oldham Athletic are in Kenya.
The group, which includes four qualified teachers, two football coaches, a joiner and the Chronicle's Athletic reporter Matthew Chambers, touched down at Nairobi airport today for the start of a 10-day mission spent working in a local school near Nakuru.
The expedition forms part of the Oldham Athletic Community Trust’s 25th anniversary celebrations and fundraising has taken place both for the benefit of communities in Kenya and here in the town.
Groups representing Wycombe Wanderers and Derby County are also present at the Hadassah village project during the stay, organised by African Adventure.
Regular updates on the group’s progress will feature in the Chronicle across the next two weeks.
“I am sure it will be an eye-opening experience,” said our man Matthew. “I am really happy to be part of the group putting Oldham’s stamp on what is a lot of very positive work going on out at the project.’
FUNDS are still being collected for the benefit of the Community Trust and its work. Anyone wishing to contribute should go to www.everyclick.com/kenyanadventure
