WANTED MAN: goalkeeper Alex Cisak has impressed since joining Athletic last summer.
ATHLETIC goalkeeper Alex Cisak is rumoured to be on his way out of Boundary Park in a £350,000 switch to Peterborough United.
The npower Championship side are thought to have been impressed by the Australian’s form last term and boss Darren Ferguson needs a replacement for outgoing shot-stoppers Joe Lewis and Paul Jones.
Cisak confirmed on Twitter he had cut short his holiday to “take care of some business”.
Should he opt to leave, it would be the third blow inflicted by a Championship club in as many weeks for Athletic boss Paul Dickov.
Ever-reliable Kieran Lee departed for Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, while long-serving Chris Taylor signed a one-year deal with Millwall.
Athletic can at least command a fee for Cisak, who has 12 months left on his contract with the option of another year.
But Dickov is already searching for a new full-back and winger, and now possibly a ’keeper, as well as making other additions to the squad before the big kick-off in August.
Cisak made 38 league appearances last season, and was one of the few stand-out performers in a disappointing campaign.
Athletic hope to nail down Cisak’s compatriot James Wesolowski — a former Peterborough player — to a new contract in the coming days.
ATHLETIC will test themselves against near-neighbours Huddersfield Town in the build up to the npower League One season. The clubs meet at Boundary Park on Saturday, August 4.
The Terriers are still basking in glory after gaining promotion to the npower Championship through a play-off final victory over Sheffield United at the weekend.
That success made the cross-Pennine derby contest possible. Athletic are reluctant to face clubs operating in the same division in friendly matches.
On Wednesday, July 11 (7.45pm), Athletic are away to Mossley and two days later begin their six-day training camp in Portugal.
Athletic hope to arrange two further home fixtures — the teams have been identified, including one Premier League club, but dates are not yet confirmed — and two more away clashes before the 2012-13 campaign begins.
