PETERBOROUGH boss Darren Ferguson has admitted the club has made a bid for a goalkeeper - following speculation linking his club to Athletic’s Alex Cisak.

Cisak (23) cut short an overseas holiday to “take care of some business” amid reports the npower Championship club wanted to secure his services for £350,000.

Posh director of football Barry Fry does not talk about transfer activity at London Road, but Ferguson told local press the club had “lodged a bid for a goalkeeper currently under contract”.

They are yet to deny interest in Cisak, who performed well in a challenging first campaign at Boundary Park.

Ferguson requires a new ’keeper following the exits of Joe Lewis and Paul Jones, and Cisak’s age fits the profile.

Championship rivals Watford are also believed to be in the hunt for Cisak, although they are not thought to have made a formal offer.

Cisak currently has 12 months left on his contract, with the option of another year. If he leaves, back-up goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis — Cisak’s compatriot — could be elevated to number one spot.

The 21-year-old deputised nine times last season and proved to be a solid replacement in Cisak’s absence.
