Big bonus

SIGN HERE: new boy Connor Brown completes the formalities with Athletic boss Paul Dickov.
Joy for Latics as Wes signs two-year deal
“THE future is bright” is the message coming out of Athletic after they secured the services of midfield man James Wesolowski for two years.
It was the third piece of positive news at Boundary Park in a morale-boosting 48 hours, with Wesolowski’s commitment coming hot on the heels of Dean Bouzanis penning a one-year extension and Connor Brown joining from Sheffield United.
And chief executive Neil Joy believes the 24-month agreement gives Dickov some breathing space when it comes to moulding his squad.
Joy said: “James was the manager’s number one target in terms of securing the services of our current players. Paul was very keen to tie down James for 12 months, so to get him on a two-year deal is a big bonus. A longer contract helps us plan for the future and we are delighted.”
Dickov said: "We saw last season when James and Dean Furman were fit and playing alongside each other that there was probably no better central-midfield pairing in League One. I would go as far as saying James can be as big as any other signing we make this summer.”
Furman echoed his manager’s views on Twitter, saying: “Great news to see Wesolowski signing up for the next couple of years — buzzing to get back out in the middle again with him.”
Full-back Brown (20) never made a first team appearance for Sheffield United and spent last season on loan at Hinckley.
He provides more competition for places at the back, following the departure of Kieran Lee.
