DERBY County winger Lee Croft has been linked with a return to Athletic.
Rams boss Nigel Clough has put Croft’s suitors on alert by considering him surplus to requirements.
The former Manchester City and Norwich wide man (26) enjoyed a successful loan spell at Boundary Park during 2004-05.
He spent last season at St Johnstone and, despite having 12 months left on his contract at Pride Park, Derby have told him to find a new club this summer.
St Johnstone have already declared an interest in taking him back. Derby are likely to demand a small fee for any permanent transfer, making a second loan stint at Athletic the most likely outcome should boss Paul Dickov decide to swoop.
During his three months with Athletic he made 17 appearances and got on the scoresheet twice.
